I want to share one good news with you all. Finally, my tourist visa for Canada got approved and I am back from Vacations. And in this article, I want to share my experience with you about how I got my Canadian Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). I will be sharing the complete process and what documents I submitted with the application. I submitted my application for the Canada tourist visa at the VFS New Delhi office and the experience was good.
If you are a first time visitor to Canada as a tourist, student, or for business, you may have a problem in filling your application form, collecting all the documents, and many other things. I too had many questions in my mind before filling the application for a Canadian tourist visa and do not want to hire any tourist or visa consultant but the internet helped me a lot in clearing my doubts. There are many good forums and websites which have valuable information for free.
I applied under “Visiting family or friends” category as I have to visit my brother who has a PR status in Canada and he gave me the invitation letter. An invitation letter is very important if someone is calling you to Canada.
So, if you have made your mind to visit Canada as a tourist then, first of all, determine your eligibility to visit Canada. You can visit CIC website for it.
If you found eligible to visit Canada as per the above eligibility test, you can apply for the visa.
You can apply for a Canadian tourist visa in 2 ways. First via online application and the second through an offline form by visiting embassy or VFS office in your area. VFS is the best option if you are applying offline and I haven’t found anyone going to the Canadian embassy themselves for a visa.
I applied for visitor visa through offline method via VFS Global as I don’t have enough time and online process generally takes a long time [that is what I have heard]. An offline process takes around 10 business days or 2 weeks. You can get full information about Visitor Visa (Temporary Resident Visa – TRV) for Canada at CIC website.
Note: Current processing time from India is 44 days.
Don’t forget to include Niagara Falls in your day to day plan, as it is one of the most famous tourist places in Canada, and without seeing it your trip is incomplete. Check the below video and you would know yourself.
My Documents List for Canadian Tourist Visa
I included many documents along with the application form to make sure I am in a good position to get Canada visitor visa. Below are the documents which I included for your reference. You can include other documents too which are suitable and can make your application stronger.
1. Document Checklist [IMM 5558]
2. Application for Temporary Resident Visa [IMM 5257]
3. Family Information [IMM 5645]
4. A Bonafide letter from my company stating that they don’t have any problem and my leaves are approved. The letter should be on official letterhead and signed by your HR. Include an original letter not duplicate.
5. Income tax returns for the past 3 years, though 2 years ITR are sufficient as per the CIC website.
6. Bank statements for the past 6 months showing I have enough money for my stay in Canada and I have money to return back.
7. Letter of invitation from the person inviting you (from my brother) indicating the purpose and duration of the visit.
8. Family details of the person inviting you. Also include their passport number and citizenship.
9. My brother and his family PR card photocopy.
10. My brother’s job offer letter, Notice of Assessments (NOA) and pay slips.
11. I also included my marriage and my child’s birth certificate. This is for showing my strong relationship with my home country.
12. Detailed itinerary and purpose of visit.
13. Round trip air tickets.
14. Proof of previous travel. I included the photostat of my Japan visa and landing stamp.
15. My stocks (shares) statement.
16. Medical insurance for the period of my stay with $100,000 coverage. This I booked with an Indian insurance company as it is cheaper depending upon the number of days you stay in Canada.
17. Last but not the least, do write a cover letter supporting your application and submit it.
Check Different Letter Formats for Canada Tourist Visa (TRV)
I applied in June 2015 and since then, I can see there is a new form or instruction booklet added in the document list for Canadian tourist visa called Visa office instructions – Visit [IMM 5881], which has mainly documented checklist for Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). I am very glad to see that CIC has made a very good list of documents and removed all the confusion which the applicant can have. Do download it.
Note: I would like to thank my brother for helping me collecting the required documents and clearing my doubts wherever needed.
Tips for Canada Temporary Resident Visa – TRV
Below are few tips which I would like to share with you if you are thinking to apply for Canadian tourist visa.
1. Make a list of documents that you need for applying.
2. Collect all the information needed to fill in your application.
3. Fill out the required application forms as applicable to you.
4. Always give correct information on your application forms.
5. If possible, book your flight tickets in advance and include them with the application. It really makes a very big difference and make your application stronger.
6. Medical insurance is also good if you are going to Canada.
7. Do get your application checked by someone else [Very important]. I made one mistake in my main application and will share what I did to correct it in the next post.
8. Make visa officer believe that you are going to return back and have sufficient funds for stay by giving correct information. Don’t FAKE anything else you may be banned for a visa.
9. Do include your cover letter with the application stating why you want to go to Canada and in that letter show your strong relationship with the home country.
After submitting all the documents I got multiple entry Canada visitor visas till the validity of my passport which is 5 years.
Fees of Canada Temporary Resident Visa or Tourist visa
Current fees of Canadian temporary resident visa (TRV) is $100 (CAD). This fee is same for single entry and multiple entry visa. By default you will get multiple-entry Canadian visitor visa.
There is no option to select whether you are applying for a single entry or multiple entry visa now. Earlier the fees of a single entry and multiple entries were different and you also get the option to choose for what type of visa you are applying.
Hope you get some valuable information from my experience and would submit your tourist visa application with more confidence. If you have any doubts about filling your Canadian tourist visa application do let me know through comments or email and I will try to help in the best possible way but remember, I am not a tourist visa expert. Good Luck!!

All applications for temporary/permanent residence in Canada are subject to statutory requirements, including background checks. These requirements must be satisfied before an applicant may be granted temporary/permanent resident status. We are currently conducting certain background investigations.

Hi Sir,
I am applying for canada trv with my wife. We have an invitation letter from our cousin in canada who is citizen. I want to know do we need to prepare separate supporting documents like bank statements, property etc or we can join them in common along with our visa forms . thanks
Jasvinder Singh
Hi, Baljinder,
you have no need to submit separately supporting documents, only 1 copy will be sufficient of each supporting documents for your both the visa applications kindly check documents checklist set for Indian applicants before applying or visiting VFS you can download from http://www.cic.gc.ca
Jackson
it is not easy to got visa of Canada. Many of time i have applied but never got and now i have given my hope to go there. If anyone got visa then suggest me what i need to do.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi Jackson,
plz provide the information whatever you had submitted with your refused TRV visa applications like travel history if you have, documents whatever you had submitted, previous refusals etc, funds, family details, what travel arrangement you have submitted with visa application for assessment.
Singh
Hi
I applied visa for myself, my mother and my sister. my purpose was to visit my maternal grandmother who was ill and was hospitalised. My mother was issued a visa but me and my sister did not get visa.
We had full sponsorship for our trip from my mother’s sister and her husband who were permanent citizens and have a strong financial condition and we also added our personal bank statements and property papers and according to me we had enough funds for our trip apart from the sponsorship.
Main reasons were the same as I read above in your thread. They also mentioned that me and my sister did not have assets. How to explain embassy that we are dependent on our parents for this. After rejection, my sponsors from Canada also mailed to Canadian embassy for reconsideration but we didn’t get any response. If I ever plan to apply again what is that I should keep in mind the most.
As we all were also denied visa 10 years ago twice. Or is there any option that my sponsors can apply for our visa from Canada and here we just need to deposit our passports. I am asking this as I have heard somewhere about this option. Please help me as I want to prepare in advance before apply again in near future.
Thanks
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Singh,
Could you please tell your and sister age because, if you are above 18 years you are not dependent. And how much money did you personally showed?
Singh
Hi,
My sister’s age is 20 and mine is 23. Previously i was doing job in an MNC but now i have joined my family business. I showed 4-5L in my personal account apart from this my mother’s account had around 3 L and I didn’t applied visa for my dad but still showed his account statement which had 2.5l. My sister’s account had 1l. I feel i had shown enough balance and i also had a good and strong reason to visit the country but still not understood why they rejected my visa.
Pawan Bahuguna
Then you both are not dependent. 4-5 lakh in your account was including the round-trip flight tickets and what was the period of stay for which you applied?
Singh
10 days….i did not show 4-5 lakhs for 2 people. In total i might have shown above 10 L balance for 3 people plus i had sponsorship for my food lodging stay and even for tickets.
Pawan Bahuguna
The main thing is to make them believe what you are saying and they should be convinced you will be back after your stay.
The best option for this is to purchase refundable round-trip tickets and travel insurance. Bachelors have a hard time in getting TRV.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi Singh.
In your case Canadian entry clearance officer aware that you are all wish to visit Canada to see your hospitalized grandmother and you have submitted variety of the documents in the support of their visa applications but officer granted visa to your mother she deserve the visa to see her mother in medical emergency situation.
sponsorship from Canada does not guarantee of Issuance of visa to you I think you no travel history in the past and you both are the very young so officer has doubt you both stay longer than requested in the Canada with the help of sponsor and you said your sponsor has sent email to Canada High Commission where requested to see reassessment in your family’s favor but they did not respond they will respond you accordingly with in 30 days.
Mr. Singh, you family application is closed however you wish to reapply if your situation has changed perhaps you did not mentioned in visa application that you were refused twice for TRV in 10 years ago, If you can afford, Yes you /sponsor can reapply for TRV visa from Canada with the help of ICCRC consultant he will represent your case more effectively with Canada High Commission.
I think this information will help you.

Hi Asha,
Canadian High commission recently updated his documents list for Indian applicants who wish to apply for TRV, Canada Giving priority to those applicants who is holding a valid US visa or traveled to US/Canada in the past 10 years you have no need to submit any financial documents with your visa application form you can apply under CAN+ Program In this program you have no need to submit more documents( you have a valid US non-immigrant visa and you have received a departmental clearance from US Authorities before US visa pasted on your passport so Canada will issue you TRV without any problem) for more information you can log in at http://www.cic.gc.ca and download documents checklist for India region and submit documents exactly they want.
Best of Luck.

Hi Asha,
I don’t see you have added Cover letter, travel plan, Itinerary, flight tickets, insurance, etc.
Also, 4 lakh is for how many days? Half of the money will go in ticket booking if you have already not got them.
Rest all looks good.
Ronnie
I am also looking for Canada Tourist visa. Many times i have even tried but But I still could not get the visa. Can you suggest me from where and how i got the tourist visa.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Ronnie,
They give the reason for rejection, so try to mitigate them. Hope you will get success.
pawandeep singh
Please sir help me, I got u.k visa 6 months and I was travel Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Canada visitor visa refused
1 length of purpose stay in Canada
2 purpose of visit
3 travel history
Sir can i apply again
Pawan Bahuguna
Yes, you can apply.
But,
As they have given you the reason of rejection, try to fix that first.
UBFx
Hi Pawan,
sorry to interrupt you but as far as i have read it is they won’t count Malaysia Singapore Thailand dubai or any other place where visa process on finger tips as a travel history better for Mr.Singh is take Schengen visa and visit few places where visa is required like Europe, USA or some other places which have stndard then apply for Canada as these days rules are change they check every single point and if they find any mistake they reject it right away.. just my 2 cent observation for 2017
Pawan Bahuguna
I could not comment on that and it is not mandatory to visit other countries before Canada and it is not a mistake.
You just have to be sure, you have enough money to sustain in Canada and come back and should represent your application well.
UBFx
i agree with you it is not mandatory to have travel history for canada what they want is surety to go back but these days they are refusing 80% of applications from Asia especially India, Pakistan and Bangladesh even middle east applicatns on minor issues even if you forgot to mention any single visa refusal they are refusing on it so better apply their visa with sufficient stuff you can check cavisa forum for reference i am not sure the reasons behind significant refusals it might be quota issue but not sure…
Jasvinder Singh
Hi,
If you are looking for Canada visa you should have a valid US visa or you have traveled to US in the past. You should apply under CAN+ program in this program you have need to submit less documents with your visa application otherwise its very difficult to convince the Canadian officer this is the case.
Pawan Bahuguna
US visa is not obligatory, it is just an added advantage. I did not have the US visa and my mother did not have any visa. Her passport was new. So all depends upon your proper documentation, the purpose of visit and money.
Shaan
If U have genuine Documents and Having Sufficient funds Around 6 to 8 lacks with Regular Six Month Bank Transactions Than they will Give u Visa Surely and if u have good Travel History then it will be your +Point.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi shaan,
You have solved the mystery of TRV visa within just 4 lines, agreed with you people who are looking for Canada visa and they have no family/friends/relatives in the Canada then US B1/B2 visa will help you to get TRV visa easily by the way Mr. pawan your case was different from others though you had stated in posted material that you have PR holder brother in the Canada who had sponsored you then you got TRV visa you are comparing others as with your own case my advised for those who have no contacts in the Canada and have less documents financial assets.
Mr. Pawan kindly update yourself accordingly, Canada checklist has been changed recently in Nov 2017 and Canada high Commission giving very much importance for those who holding valid US visa if you have valid US B1/B2 or any other US non-immigrant visa you have no need to any financial documents or assets related documents with your Canada visa application form.
so Its Golden opportunity for the applicants who are interested in Canada visa you should try to get US B1/B2 visa before applying Canada TRV.
Pawan Bahuguna
Yes, my brother is PR in Canada, but just for information, my TRV was also refused 1st time. So, it does not matter. Also, there are many visitors of this blog which have got TRV without having any ties in Canada or having US visa. They just provided proper documents.
US visa is itself not easy to get and cost money.
I am updated as per Canada checklist and there is nowhere written US visa is required to get Canada tourist visa, so it is just a myth. Yes, it is added advantage as said earlier.
It is completely untrue, that you don’t need financial documents if you have US visa, I don’t think you have checked their checklist correctly because they ask for your bank statements.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi,
If you have a good travel history in the past then you can get easily US visa but you need to have preparation before applying a US visa, If you have valid US visa then you can get all the visas easily without any problem reason behind is US admin processing in your case which has done by US Authorities at their own level after clearance received by DHS US visa will be issued to you, Its a evidence that you are not a threat to country where you are going to visit your personal record / name check / criminal record / already checked by US authorities before issuing you a visa so you had proved during interview that have a quality to get US visa.
you can apply TRV in two ways one is normal procedure it will take around 30 to 60 days depends upon embassy work load you have need to submit variety of the documents with your visa application if you are going to submit with normal procedure.
secondary easiest ways, If you have a valid US non-immigrant visa or you have traveled to Canada or US in the last 10 years then you can apply TRV under Can+program in this program your application will be decided within 10 days and you have no need to submit much documents (more than 95% approval rate world wide of this can+program) you can submit documents according to Canada High commission checklist set for indian zone.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi Pawandeep,
You have been refused for TRV to Canada, you do not need to worry about it. You tried but could not succeed, I appreciate your efforts, so you have need to consider carefully to refusal letter given by entry clearance officer to you why he was not satisfied from your recent circumstances in India.
However, you have traveled to some Asian countries Its good sign but visa officer did not consider your travel history besides you state that you have valid UK visa, so you must visit UK. If your UK visa endorsed with (BIVS) it means you can travel to Ireland with same visa you have no need to get Irish visa so now you can travel both the countries at same UK visa after coming back from the UK you can apply for Canada visa.
I hope this will help you.
Yuvi
Hi
As on 25 oct 2017 , I applied for Canada visitor visa along with my mother to attend convocation ceremony of my younger brother as on 19 Nov 2017. He just completed his post graduation in Canada.
I had invitation letters from my brother’s college to attend the ceremony. I had liquid cash 4 lacs in my bank account. A property worth Rs. 54 lacs(documents attached in the application), a jewelers certificate stating the value of gold I have, it’s more than 8 lacs, fixed deposit 1 lac, past 2 years ITR, my job letter and leaves letter, my mother’s rental income proof(rent agreement). A CA financial report of My family. My wife is a teacher and she will not accompany me to Canada.(she will be staying in India)
What are the chances to get a visitor visa?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Yuvi,
It is hard to say, it all depends on how you represented your application. Also, for the visitor visa, you should have sufficient liquid money to sustain during your stay in Canada which includes round trip tickets.
The property, FD, certificates, relatives, etc. are all for showing strong ties with homeland.
Could you please tell, Rs. 4 lacs were mentioned for how many days and also hotel booking and round-trip ticket was included in the application?
Jasvinder Singh
Hi yuvi,
TRV would issued to both of you very soon, entry clearance officer aware that your brother has completed his post graduation in the Canada and he wants to live this ceremony with you and his mother so this is the fantastic moment for your younger brother to celebrate with you in the Canada and officer has no problem to grant you TRV in your case documents does not matter what you had submitted.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Jasvinder,
I think documents matter in every case. They need to be sure, the person who is going to Canada must return back.
Yuvi
Hi Mr Pawan,
Thanks a lot for your reply,
My Visa application is refused. They stated the reason that I don’t have strong ties in Canada and India. (My wife and my younger sister are here in India, I provided my marriage certificate copy, my wife’s job offer letter and her job I’d card copy).
Then they stated that my funds, income, and assets are not sufficient.( my Account balance 2.12 lac, mother’s 2.01 lacs, 1 lac FD, 8 lacs gold, 54 lacs my own property value, 41,000/- my salary, 19,000/- mother’s rental income, 25,000/- wife’s salary) is it not sufficient to visit Canada for 10 days. Then they stated travel history.
Is it compulsory to have a travel history on your passport while applying for Canada visa? Then they stated that I didn’t provide proper documents of my host’s establishment in Canada. ( I have given degree completion letter by the college, a job letter from where my younger brother is currently working in Canada, his tax papers, an approval letter from his landlord stating that me and my mother can live at his home during our visit).
Plz suggest me what can I do next?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Yuvi,
Sorry to hear that.
Travel history is not mandatory, but it is one of the factors and give the advantage.
In my opinion, you did not have sufficient liquid money. You have 2 lacs out of which around 75K will go in round trip ticket and apart from that, you will also need money for medical insurance, hotel bookings, food, etc. As said earlier for Visitor visa you should show enough liquid money.
So my question is, did you already had roundtrip tickets, medical insurance, proper plan where you will visit in 10 days?
Yuvraj
Hi Mr. Pawan,
I have my and my mother’s medical insurance but don’t have travel insurance, I didn’t give the medical insurance papers.
I didn’t book the tickets. Hotel booking was not required as I will be staying with my brother at his rented house.
About liquid money per person, I was thinking that a round trip ticket will cost 70,000/-
5000/- travel insurance
10,000/- other expense
1000 CAD- 50,000/- rs for living expense in Canada for 10 days.( as my younger brother said 1000 dollars for 10 days is a good enough amount)
so what should be a sufficient amount?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Yuvraj,
Though there are no set guidelines for how much money you should have for visiting in Canada, but in my experience around 1200 CAD/week is nominal.
The round trip ticket fluctuates very much and at the current time, it is around 1 lakh for 1 person. If you would have booked the refundable ticket in advance, it should have given more weightage to your application as visa officer will be sure, you are coming back and you have some plans. I know booking advance ticket is bit risky, but sometimes we have to take the risk to visit the country like Canada.
Also, if you are going to visit the new country. I am sure you will try to explore it as much as possible and for that, you should have a clear day-by-day plan as I mentioned in my post along with the money. You have to mention you are not just going to attend your brother’s convocation ceremony, but also want to see the beauty of Canada as a tourist.
One more point, as your brother is new graduate is he capable of taking care of your food, and travel in Canada? Hope you have shown his bank balance too and you have got that mention that in your invitation letter. It is very important.
Don’t feel discouraged, I was too rejected first time. Just try to mitigate all the problems which they have written in the rejection letter (Exclude visiting other countries(.
Hope all this helps you.
Regards,
Pawan Bahuguna
Yuvi
Hii.
Thanks a lot for your guidance Mr Pawan.
I will try my luck next year till then my brother will get his work permit and a job.
Will do it according to your guidance.
Thanks.
Pawan Bahuguna
Good Luck Yuvi.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi,
Yuvi’s case was positive but he could not filed his visa applications properly he submitted garbage documents like valuation of gold and property with his visa application these kinds of the docs are easily available in the market at nominal cost so has less evidencial value some documents can destroy your visa credibility Canada High Commission does not consider these kinds of the docs, need to gather missing documents/information then reapply in the future.
tanu
Hi Pawan I need some guidance on Canada tourist visa.
Pawan Bahuguna
Yes Tanu, please tell what advice you need.
Tanu
Hi, my name is Tanu, I am planning to apply for Canada tourist visa with my husband. I have many queries like:
My husband has started his new business and his income has not yet begun, its been almost 7 months since we have started our business. we have rent agreement of our factory but my husband’s income has not begun to flow. Before this business, he was into catering business for about a year which he had shut down because of not much response to it. However, in catering, he did have some income through the year of around 2 lakhs. He has been filing ITR for almost 2 years now.
Also, his parents are staying with his sister in Australia from past 2 years on temporary residency visa and they gave us some money on regular basis to run our business to meet the expenses of business till the time we don’t start earning.
Our anniversary is approaching in December and his parents have transferred 4 lakhs to us as a gift 2 days back and we plan to use that money to travel to Canada for two weeks. Also, I have a FD of around 3 lakhs in my name and I am salary based. I am working from past 2 years and have been granted annual leave by my company with a leave letter so that I can use that to apply for my visa.
Kindly suggest if we have some chance of getting the visa or not.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Tanu,
For the tourist visa, in my opinion, they check for stability, the money you have and family ties with the home country. 4 lakhs is not sufficient money for 2 people to live in Canada for 2 weeks. They check liquid money and FD don’t count under it.
As per today’s booking status (For December), the round trip price for 2 passangers is around 2.2L only flights. Also, now it is taking around 35-40 working days for TRV processing, so you can get estimate all these things and can plan accordingly.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi Tanu,
If you have no travel history in the past then you do not apply for TRV its very very hard visa to get. you can get easily If you have any family/relatives or friends in the Canada who will sponsor you then you both have chances to Get Canadian visa or you both have valid US B1/B2 visa and you are applying under CAN+ program in this program you have no need to submit more documents however you have need to submit basic documents with his Canada visa application. your present circumstances are weeks your profile is not suitable for Canada visa so you both could be refused for Canada visa.
I advised you, you should apply for Australia visa because you have very strong family ties with Aussy land and they can sponsor you easily so you should apply for Australia visa first with all the documents whatever you have you submitted them with applications, there is very high chances for both of you to get 1 yr validity visitor visa to Australia after traveling to Australia you should apply for TRV visa I hope TRV will be issued to you.
UBFx
48 days since apply and no update in how many days your passport were arrived? and what to do next? processing time is passed already wondering what is happening as no update on VAC website or ircc applied offline.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi UBFx,
From which location you applied and how? If it has already passed the standard processing time, do contact them.
UBFx
I contacted them and finally got a reply today that background checking in progress applied on 8th sep and it is in Abu Dhabi VAC, however, time is 35 days but now it is 58th day everyone is suffering from same situation.
Pawan Bahuguna
I think they have many application to process and thus taking time to process your application.
UBFx
Not sure about it 62 days already what i noticed if they are refusing sending applications within time frame and if they are thinking like they can consider to give visa it is taking 2 months or more only rare cases which are cad+ they are coming early but again rare rest of them all are going in background check i am not sure what it includes in background verification..

What is the procedure to convert tourist visa into work permit after reaching Canada?
Pawan Bahuguna
Who told you tourist visa can be converted into work visa?
Jasvinder Singh
Hi,
If you have money power and you have a valid TRV to Canada then you can convert TRV into work visa after fulfill requirements of the work visa without any problem. First you need to get 6 months permission to stay in the Canada lawfully rest your lawyer will handle.
Pawan Bahuguna
Don’t give false information Jasvinder. I respect your contribution & advice on this blog.
I have a valid TRV and it cannot be converted to the Work visa. If you are suggesting to go in visitor visa and look for job, that is not legitimate.
Jasvinder Singh
My dear pawan,
I am not giving any false information at your blog, you can check all the relevant information at Canada’s official website http://www.cic.gc.ca in work section all the information available at this website, you will found there that TRV visa holder can apply for work visa with in Canada. there is no issue Tips for you
If you have valid TRV visa and you are in the Canada you can covert your TRV into work visa with the help of ICCRC consultant or reputed lawyer who will help you lawfully to get work visa he will file your worker visa application with all requested documents or requirements with official fees and he will charged for this without money you cant do that in the Canada what I said wrong?
As you saying you have TRV but you did not try to get work visa of Canada so you have limited information about work visa. if you follow or arrange following step then you can convert TRV into work visa kindly read carefully information providing you in free of cost
first of all you have need to get 6 months permission to stay in the Canada lawfully, because your work visa application will take around 4 months, your occupation comes in 0.A,B,C category and you have a Job offer in the Canada, your job comes in NOC list then your employer will file LMIA approval from the department after approval of LMIA your lawyer will file for work visa application and after 3-4 months you can work in the Canada.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Jasvinder,
Temporary resident visa (TRV) is a visiting visa and not Temporary resident permit (TRP) and one can apply TRP while staying in Canada. Once TRP is approved (stating sufficient reasons to apply) for a span of time, the person can apply for a Work permit which allows person to work. This process easily would take minimum of 6 months-1 year (1 year without job).
Th best option would be to go with PR.
The work visa requirements mentioned in the below link will be applicable if point 1 is valid. It is not easy as it looks.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-eligible.asp
Also, Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is there which not easy to get.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi,
Dear pawan,
now you have been agreed on the matter that if you follow the procedure than you can convert your TRV into worker visa or in study visa with in Canada there are so many ways available in the Canada if you follow them deffenately you can convert your status into any other category lawfully.
you have taken 4 days to reply and during these 4 days you have studied the cic website now you are providing solution / information on your own blog this is the way while you had raised the question at the beginning on your blog that I am providing false information at your blog right, NP SINGH asked you what is the right way to convert visit visa into work visa you replied who told you tourist visa can be converted into work visa may be NP SINGH have valid TRV to Canada and he has some specific plans for change of status with in Canada there is also possibility whether he has talked with any agent or consultant in the Canada who satisfy him that they he can convert his visa into work visa but you denied straight forward due to lac of information and NP SINGH has believes in your blog that’s why he was asking you
This is immigration matter / industry there are so many qualified ICCRC consultant / lawyer available in the Canada who can help you to get covert you status / extension / file for your worker visa application / refugee claim etc with in the Canada at TRV status there is no harm, if you are in the Canada and you want to change/convert your status into any other category go ahead with the help of ICCRC lawyer who will help represent you with cic if you can afford their services.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Jasvinder,
I respect your knowledge, but as I said earlier, it is almost impossible and it takes time. TRV cannot be directly converted to work visa it is just a visiting visa and not Temporary resident permit (TRP). CIC website says about TRP and not TRV. There is a difference between both and I know you will also agree on it.
The person would need TRP and sufficient reason to apply for work visa and LMIA approval. And can I know why someone from Canada would hire Indian who don’t have work permit? Every company checks for status of the candidate before offering any job.
I know you are a consultant and I am not and I may have less knowledge than you regarding work visa. But, it is a very difficult route. The best option is to apply for PR.
N P Singh
Hello Pawan and Jasvinder Singh. I am not abe to find the information shared by you. By the way Pawan is not approving my comments on his blog but still I am reading his blog with hope of not wasting my time.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi N.P Singh,
Why I won’t approve your comments. Please don’t think on that direction.
Also, this article is regarding Canada tourist visa and not Work visa, so please stick to it.
If you are looking for Work Visa related queries, please visit below link. They have good information there and You can start your own questions as well.

Jasvinder Singh
Hi NP SINGH,
If you have valid TRV visa and you want to convert it into any other category and if you can afford all the expenses while in Canada then after arrival in Canada you can contact with a reputed ICCRC consultant in the Toronto area he will guide you accordingly, work for you as per Canada rules/regulations, he can represent your case strongly in Canada with cic with all the requirement and you can get desire visa for you.
we will end this conversation here on the topic of work visa as pawan said this blog is set for tourist visa queries not for any work visa related issue.
Pawan Bahuguna
Don’t worry, will create a separate post for it.

What souce of income should I show as I am unemployed. As my aunt is ill I am going to visit her in canada
Pawan Bahuguna
The income source which you have.
Also, what money you are going to show to go to Canada?
Shaan
Hi Pawan,
We have now Canada visit visa and now we want to apply for my newborn baby, so plz tell me the procedure to apply for my newborn baby. Do I have to show same documents which I have submitted for my visit visa? And do I have to show same bank statement again? And I have to change also my travel date so what should I tell them regarding the date of the tour?
Plz, give me reply! Thanks a lot.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Shaan,
First of all, congratulations for your newborn baby.
If you have already got the passport for your child, you can submit the application of your child similarly like yours. Yes, you can show your documents and can write that you would like to take your child with you to Canada and also that is why you have changed your travel dates. Write all the things in the Cover letter.
And most importantly, also provide your child’s birth certificate and if one of the parents is only going to Canada with the child, then a letter of authorization, in English, which is signed by the parent who is not traveling.
sunny
Hi Pawan,
This is sunny from Punjab. I am 46 years old and like to travel to Canada on a Visitor visa with my wife only for 12 days. I am a govt employee. I have liquid funds of 300000. Is that sufficient??
In my provided fund and other F.D.more than 1000000 are there. should I apply??
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Sunny,
3 lakh is not sufficient to go to Canada. From that amount, half will go into ticket booking itself. Apart from that, you have insurance, hotel booking, and other expenses.
For visitor visa you should have enough liquid funds.
KHURSHID
Hello sir,
I am applying for Canada visitor visa, but I am unemployed and also do not pay ITR and also my father doesn’t pay ITR. kindly suggest me the way and how much money I need to show in the account.
thank you
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi,
The main question they will ask why you want to go and how you earn money. You will have to show source of income, then only will have some faith in you.
Darshpreet Kaur
hello sir,
they just write other reason.
Pawan Bahuguna
Very strange. Hope you have checked the letter carefully. Could you please tell what documents you submitted, period of stay, purpose, etc.
Darshpreet Kaur
This all I attached in the file.
1 cover letter
2 hotel booking for 1 week
3 Travel history
4 FD, Bank Statements, property, salary statement
Pawan Bahuguna
Thanks.
Please answer below questions.
1. How much money you showed and what period of stay you mention on your application (was it 1 week as per hotel booking)?
2. Did you apply alone? Also, are you single or married?
3. What was the purpose of the visit?
4. Did you include your ITR? And through which VFS office you applied or applied online?
Darshpreet Kaur
we showed open 2.5 lakh and in FD 10 lakh.
we book hotel 24 july 2017 to 31 july.
i’m unmarried (22 yrs) i applied with my mother.
purpose is just travel to Canada in the holidays.
yes include with ITR and VFS office (Jal.)
Pawan Bahuguna
I think 2.5L is not enough for 2 people for a week including round-trip tickets. FD money can only help in showing strong ties with home country. And also it is little difficult for bachelors to get TRV.
Darshpreet Kaur
Hello sir,
Now what I do to get the visa.
Pawan Bahuguna
I Would suggest to increase the liquid funds. Show credit card limit if you have.
Make detail plan about your visit, where you will go each day as I stated in my article. Show strong ties with home country, which can include your job, family members, relatives etc.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi Darshpreet,
you have fixed assets in the bank but does not have enough liquid money in your hand for visiting to Canada and you stated that you both going to Canada for Just 1 week only however you will spend 2 days in travel Journey so have left 5 days remains what would you see in 5 days therefore visa officer was unable to take positive decision at your visa application and you both have been refused I think you belong to Punjab and submitted property documents would be in Punjabi language right did you translated those into English language you take some time to re-apply gather all the missing documents/information then reapply once again I hope you will succeed to get TRV.
Pawan Bahuguna
Good explanation Jasvinder.
I really appreciate your efforts and zeal to help others. Keep helping people. Thanks again.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi,
Recently, all the Canada High Commissions in India has changed his style in refusal letter earlier they were ticked in the boxes indicate you have been refused from these reasons but now they are mentioned refusal reasons in others reason such as Given economic conditions, employment prospects, considering your travel history, economic establishment and family ties, I am not satisfied that you would respect the terms of your admission as a temporary resident in Canada.
Darshpreet Kaur
Hello Sir,
I applied for Canada tourist visa with my mother in June, but they refuse my application. We booked a hotel in Canada. We also visited Uk twice.
why our visa refused.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Darshpreet,
Reason will be written on the letter they give.
Shahid

Pawan Bahuguna
Cannot say if the visa is stamped or not. You would only know once the passport is received.
Jasvinder Singh
Hi,
Canada High Commission Delhi changed his style he will inform you via email that you have been refused for TRV and after a week you will received your passport without visa stamp so you have need to check your email id which you had mentioned in your visa application form.
Pawan Bahuguna
Informative, thanks for sharing this.
UBFx
and if no email and passport arrive so that means visa is done then?
Pawan Bahuguna
Did not got you. No email and passport arrive where.
Jasvinder Singh
You can track your passport through VFS online system if there is message like your passport is ready for collection and you have not received any refusal decision email from Canada High commission It means visa has been issued to you.
Karan
Hi Pawan,
Nice blog, extremely informative. I just have one question. I applied for visitor visa on the 25th of August 2017 online and got a reply on 22nd September 2017 that a decision has been made and they require my passport to finalize processing the application. I submitted my passport on the same day.
What according to your experience do you think time will it take t get my passport back and do you think will it be a positive news.
Its been a tiring wait and I was feeling under pressure, so couldn’t help but ask.
Thank you in advance for your time.
Take care.
God bless
Karan
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Karan,
Yes, looks positive. Looks like you submitted application online.
Karan
Hi Pawan,
Yes, I did and quite frankly it’s been a horrendous experience waiting and waiting. And thank you for your advice, I hope so too. I’ll let u know once i get back my passport. Any idea on how much time will it take.
But thank you anyways.

Hi, i am currently living in Dubai with my wife and son, i have been here since 9 years now, salary 2290 USD per month, my current role is assistant manager, i have visited UK and thailand earlier, my son in born here in UAE, we all are indian nationals, what are the chances of getting canada tourist visa now for us? based on my profile and travel history
Pawan Bahuguna
Chances of visa depend upon the document you submit and money you show along with the purpose to visit.
Sarabjit Singh
Hi Pawan sir,
I am applying for offline Canada visitor visa, my organization has given me NOC by mentioning that my tour to Canada is fully sponsored and supported. Now how much cash amount I have to show in my bank account.
I have only one ITR, can I apply with it.
Rest I followed all the information made available by you on your website and it encouraged me to apply self rather than going to an agent.
Also pls let me know should I have to notarized the invitations I got from one Canada university and two colleges for visit them as they made available to me by my email.
Rest which document should be notarized
1 cover letter
2 flight ittinarary
3 Medical insurance
4 Travel history Ittniraray
5 current Travel ittinarary
6 I’d s of mine, wife and daughter showing their proof of my relation with them.
7 cover letter
8 NOC
Please reply as soon as possible.
Regards
Sarabjit
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Sarabjit,
There is no need to notarize any document. One question is in my mind, that why your company is not applying visa for you. Generally, companies file the visa application.
Now, if you have only 1 ITR you can apply with it. Just in cover letter explain that why you have only 1 ITR. As the company has taken the responsibility you should not have any trouble.
Good Luck.
Sarabjit Singh
Hi pawan Sir,
My orgnisation has issued me noc as well mentioned that my tour to canada is fully sponsored and supported by them.
i added my itr, three invitation letter from three colleges in canada to visit them, my job letter, 3,16000 for 14 days stay, hotel booking confirmation, my daughter birth certificate, sworn letter.
But they refused by stating that visa officer is not satisfied that i will return back.
Thanx
Sarabjit
Pawan Bahuguna
Did you had the invitation letter from colleges you are visiting and what company documents did you showed?
Also, did you had flight bookings and Medical insurance?
As I said earlier if the company is sponsoring, they will have to also submit some of their documents. Better your company apply on your behalf.
prabhakhher sandra
hi pawan ji, my name is prabhakhher sandra back to few months i have applied for canada tourist multiple entry visa and got rejected due to some reasons like insufficient funds and for dont having proper reason so , please can you giude me to get visa .
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Prabhakher,
I am not a Visa consultant but can try. Please let me know your details and what documents you submitted, along with how much money you showed, the period of stay, etc.
Ckk
Hey
I applied for Canada Visitor Visa on 18th Aug and got my passport on 16th Sept and with it, I got one letter written”.
Dear Applicant,
Your passport has been returned to you without the visa. Some important information has been sent to you on email. Please check your email.”
I have not received any email yet.
What does this mean? Should I contact embassy regarding this?
Thankyou
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi,
It is strange! Normally in that letter, they mention why Visa is rejected, not in the separate email maybe they have changed the process.
Check your junk email. If it is not there then send email to your embassy.
Ckk
Hello Sir
Thank you for the reply. Yes I did check spam and others as well but didn’t find any email. So as suggested by you I emailed concerned consulate General of Canada on 22nd and got the acknowledgement letter next day. Still waiting for the reply.
Sir, Is there any chances they require any document or have some doubt regarding my application? Because refusal letter got by people whose visa has been rejected has the same old pattern but I got the printed letter.
Pawan Bahuguna
I just don’t have idea about the new system, would request you to wait for their reply.
Jasvinder Singh
ckk,
Who submitted your visa application file you or any agent It was filed online or offline if your agent filed your visa application at VFS then he mentioned his own email id in VFS gateway and your refusal letter reached on this new email id High commission follows only VFS gateway emails at the time of submission visa application if you have filed online then you can write a email to [email protected] he will respond you after 30 days.
Ckk
Hey sir
Thankyou
I submitted my visa application offline mode at Chandigarh VFS and email mentioned was my own Id. I mailed at chandigarh consulate general email and just got the acknowledgement letter no other revert yet. For how long should I wait for the reply..? I applied for first Birthday celebration of my nephew.
Sir is this any new rule ..? Do they require any document or are they doubtful for my application..?
Jasvinder Singh
Hi Ckk,
Unfortunately, your TRV application has been refused and your case has been closed by Canadian embassy so you have no right to any appeal or embassy would not ask you to provide any documents you will wait after 30 days you will receive your email on given id and there is no big issue you can try to understand that why you have been refused for visa, study hard to your refusal letter in this refusal letter visa officer tick the points to be considered for you why he was not satisfied from your information/evidence.
You have to need to study refusal points over the internet and through this page collect all the missing information/documents and re-try after some time I hope you will get your visa next time be remember visa officer is not your enemy he is doing his duty only.
Larry
Pawan,
can you say how soon or late that someone can submit an application prior the departure date?
please advise
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Larry,
Please check processing time in your country and apply accordingly.

I applied for tourist visa to canada via udaan india on 07/08/2017 while i am tracking the status it is showing as application is being processed. Is it going to approve or reject? Is there any idea for you on this.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Swathi,
You cannot know if the application is approved or rejected till you get the passport on your hand. In which city you applied?
Swathi
I submitted my canadian visitor visa 5 weeks back while i am checking my status it is still in being proccessed. Is there any possibility to approve it? 20170807INBLTRV××××× MY tracking id is like this
Pawan Bahuguna
Possibility depends on what documents you have submitted. Hope for the best. Yes, nowadays it is taking a long time. Even they have mentioned same on their website.
Harpreet
Hello Pawan,
My name is happy n I’m 9 months pregnant, my husband and mom in law have applied from India to visit our first baby’s birth but they got refused and only 4 weeks left to my due date and I am reapplying for them from here online application.
I have a work permit and I m working, so in invitation letter, I mentioned this thing and also about my brother he is PR, so can I mention my brother invitation letter, PR card, job offer, his pay stub.
Does this thing will make sense to visa officer that two people are inviting.
Firstly, I will only apply for my husband and giving 2-3 days gap I will apply for my mom in law.
CIC website says 29 days processing god knows when it will come. They also have a round trip ticket booked from 22sept – 3 rd Nov
And I m planning to apply on 12 Sept. I know time is too compact here but have no other choice …
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Happy,
You have the valid reason to call your husband and mom-in-law. Don’t know why they rejected the application.
Could you please tell what reason they gave for rejection and also did you submitted your medical documents stating you are pregnant. Make sure to write the cover letter to explain all the situation and also mention that they will be leaving Canada and you have already booked their round trip tickets and medical insurance.
Also, how much money did you husband and mom-in-law showed in the application?
Harpreet
Hello pawan,
Thanks for ur reply!
Well i gave them all my details including medical letter as well ….. still got rejected due to insufficient income and that they won’t leave canada
Firstly, there sponsor was my father in law which had around 14 lakh in der account, mother in law had 5 lakh , husband had 3 lakh
I believe this was sufficient amount but still got rejected….
I have reapplied for husband firstly:
In invitation folder: i attached my letter, ministry’s letter, my borthers letter, my work permit, my brother pr card
Financial proof: my husband job letter, pay stub, NOC, ITR , bank statement (7 lakh), salary statement, his indian ID
Mine job letter, pay stub , bank statement ($10,000)
My borther job letter , pay stub , notice of assessment
Travel history folder: our honeymoon trip tickets, his passport wid all stamped pages..
Purpose of travel: my medical letter, his air ticket, my lease agreement
Proof of relationship: marriage certificate, my and his passport
Well now fingers are crossed hoping for gud ,….. do u have any idea how long the process will be as i have applied online from canada will this affect processing time??
Pawan Bahuguna
Looks like you have submitted all the required documents. Did you submit any cover letter stating why you are inviting him to Canada and how important this moment is for your husband. Also, always include leave approval letter from company.
Good luck! Hope you will get the visa this time.
Simran
Hi sir, i already have 6 months TRV till 5th nov .i am visiting canada in oct for vacations. After coming back from vacations can i apply again for TRV in 2-3 months with more funds which i hv showed earlier and more property documents and can i get visa till my passport expires? My brother and sister living in canada.
Pawan Bahuguna
It depends upon Visa officer. Though you have good chances as you already have TRV.
Navneet Choudhary

I have applied for hotel job in Canada out side from Canada, they sent me one form I filled out the form and sent them back, then they sent me visa form and advised me to fill the form and send it to the immigration lawyer in Canada along with passport copy, pictures, and some other documents.
When I sent all the required documents to the immigration lawyer in Canada, in reply they asked me to deposit 375$ as a visa clearance letter (tourist visa as the hotel management said we’ll bring you on tourist visa then we’ll arrange work permit and other documents here in Canada),so now I’m confused whether I should deposit the fee or not and if I deposit the fee I’ll surely get the visa clearance approval letter or May be not ,and if I get the mentioned letter then how many % I’ll get the visa.
Please advise sincerely.
THANKS AND REGARDS
Anis
Pawan Bahuguna
I doubt they are legitimate.
There are lots of SCAM going on these days. Can you tell how you applied? Did you applied through the official website or through the agent.
I would say don’t submit any money for now.
UBFx
Hello Pawan,
I want to know, what should be your minimum worth atlest before you apply for Canadian TRV visa? like declared worth in ITR is 200k USD is it enough or it should be more than that? Any advice will be helpful what is a criteria of worth judgement they do and calculate strong ties etc?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi,
I don’t think there is any such minimum worth criteria. The more you have better your chances. Basically, I think they should be taking in account the amount you have currently in your account, which can support your stay in Canada and travel tickets.
Strong ties include your family members and relatives.
UBFx
I have traveled all countries with my wife son and daughter like USA Valid visa till 2021, europe 2 times, south africa, malaysia, singapore, saudi arabia, dubai we have residence but now wife and son visa is expired, I have valid one till 2019, and traveled dubai like 30 40 times and now i am going to submit with bank account 25k usd and 100k aed 2 statements dubai and home country plus saving around 40k and rest is immovable property which is around 150k usd worth.
So is it enough or need something more in it? and adding return ticket hotel bookings etc? I own business so do I need to write letter my self or need my manager sign on it or Dubai partner advice, please.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi,
Submit as many as papers. As you own business, you can submit documents related to your business. Money factor also depends upon for how many days you are going. Also, make sure you have a valid reason to go.
Ubfx
Going for 2 weeks for tourism however my sister is there will meet them too but will stay in hotels and then back to home after 2 weeks max
Pawan Bahuguna
You can write all this in your cover letter. Also, include your itinerary and travel plan.
Also, if possible take invitation letter from y your sister to make your application strong.
UBFx
what about if i apply without taking invitation letter and do attach their pr card and passport copy i mean my sister and my brother and law and apply as a tourist and mention like will visit them for 3 4 days and then will go as per plan on tourism in different cities as i have booked all hotels already so confuse about it do i need to mention about visiting sister or not and do i need to attach their pr card and docs or not please advice as i have to submit tomorrow
thanks
Pawan Bahuguna
You can mention about them and include their details. But invitation letter would have been more convincing.
UBFx
Hi pawan,
i submitted aplication but they denied to accept my property documents they said policy is change as per policy wealth tax and wealth report is enough you can additionally add assets and wealth info but you can’t submit property documents with application. so i submitted remaining documents ..on 8th sep 🙂 what do you say all is OK? as i submit 2 years wealth returns ITR and assets list which is match as wealth returns ..
Pawan Bahuguna
If they say documents are not required then it is fine. I think it should be fine.
Nirlay patel
Hello sir,
I want to work permit under LMO based so is it Possible based on TRV visa????
Can TRV visa convert into LMIA or Work permit Visa?
Pawan Bahuguna
TRV cannot be converted to anything. For the job in Canada, the employer has to get Labour market opinion.
Sukhveer
Hello sir,
I applied visitor visa for Canada. Almost 40 days has gone. How much time?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Sukhveer,
The standard time for Indians is 33 days, which does not include transit time between the VAC and IRCC office. Try to send email to them and ask for an update.
Govind Singh
Hi Pawan
I and my wife both are on work permit canada BC. I have three kids one son and two daughters. Son (6years) is with me and studying in canada but my daughters are in delhi. I want to apply visa for my daughters and my mom. Could you suggest in which visa category I should apply for. My salary is 28$ per hour and my wife is 15$ per hour.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Govind,
I think Family category visa will be best for you.
