From the day I wrote about my Canada tourist visa (TRV) experience, I got many comments and feedback. Some people were asking questions and some were appreciating me for the valuable article I have written. This article in the last few years has helped many people who are going to file a tourist visa to Canada or waiting for their results.
If you go through all the comments on that article, you will find that many people were asking what letter formats I used for filling out my visa application and it would be good If I could provide them my formats for references.
This is the reason, I am writing this article to provide different letter formats and other useful formats for reference. You can modify them as per your requirement and can submit your application.
Note: Please don’t request to check your letters and proofread them. I won’t be able to do that due to time constraints.

we r three member of house. me and my wife and my 7 years old son. rest of all thing suitable for me. i just like to know invitation letter is important if i do not have anybody in canada. but have strong reasons to come back. and its cover letter and strong reasons are obviousely same for us. still we have to mention sepreatly or its only for main applicant like me.
Pawan Bahuguna
The Invitation letter has added the advantage, but if you don’t have anyone in Canada then you can’t get it.
Just try to submit as much as documents possible. Yes, better to write different letters and relate them.

VISA APPLY BEST OPTION IS ONLINE
Pawan Bahuguna
What do you want to know? Please elaborate.
Ashwani Goel
I think he want to ask which is the better option to apply.. vfs or online ? I also want to ask the same. Last month i applied canada tourist visa through vfs chandigarh but they rejected with in 5 days and it means they even didnt open my file.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Ashwani,
Right now processing time is around 34 days, how they rejected in 5 days?
I like submitting the application via VFS, because we can provide as many as documents to make our application strong.
Hira
I need to ask whether the “funds available” in the application form is to be filled with cash in hand while traveling or the money in accounts?
Pawan Bahuguna
All the money. Cash in hand + Bank accounts + Credit card, etc.
You can make a finance sheet also to send with your applicatioin.

Hello! I am from Pakistan.
I am planning to visit USA this summer. My family and I just got our visas approved. We wish to explore the canadian side of niagara falls and a little bit of toronto since we are going all the way. This is going to be our first visit to the states. We wish to go to Canada for 7-10 days at max
I am an unemployed 24 year old female and this trip is entirely sponsored by my father. What supporting documents should I provide in order to prove my ties to my home country?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Hira,
You will be needing sponsor letter from your father and his bank statements. He should write that he is sponsoring and taking care of all the things. Also, show strong ties with your homeland. You have the advantage that you have USA visa.
Good Luck!
Rahil
Hi I apply temporary resident visa from Iran but I reject the cause of my purpose of travel, i told them i am a tourist and i had an itinerary but it wasn’t sufficient, would you please help me
Pawan Bahuguna
It all depends on the documents and money you showed.
Rajinder Kaur
Hi Pawan,
I have inquiry about Tourist visa of Canada. Currently, I live in Australia. I am a student and I have temporary graduate visa (485). I have also USA tourist visa for 10 years granted on 7 Dec 2017. I am applying Canada visa online for myself and my husband. I have almost completed the online form. There are few questions:
1. I have mention that we are going to Canada to visit our relative. Do I need a Invitation letter from my relative but she is not sponsoring our.
2. I do not do any job but have $2300 in my account and a credit card of $10,000. But in application I have mentioned that I am dependent for financial support. As my husband is travelling with m, can I show my fund and my husbands fund for the financial support. Or do I need a letter of financial support from my husband?
3. Is it necessary to write purpose of visit? I have mentioned only two weeks vacations.
4. Do I need to write cover letter? I have written letter of explanation and covered those things which I have not mentioned or uploaded such as visa status in Australia and about USA visa.
Please help me by providing answers as I am on the way to apply for visa. I have left only Invitation letter, Purpose of visit and financial support.
Thank you
Regards,
Rajinder Kaur
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Rajinder,
1. If you have relative, please ask for an invitation letter, it is OK if they are not sponsoring you.
2. No problem at all, you can show that your husband is going to take care of your finances. Please show a good amount of money, so they believe you have money to sustain in Canada and come back.
3. I would say yes, do write the purpose of visit. Even CIC website has that in their requirement.
4. Yes, the cover letter is very important. It is like your application to immigration officer requesting him to approve your visa, so do write why you are visiting and assure you will return back.
Hope that helps.
Rajinder Kaur
Thanks Pawan. This is really helpful. One more question is the cover letter same as of letter of explanation or can we use cover letter in letter of explanation column?
My husband has $23000 in his account. Is that enough for two weeks?
Pawan Bahuguna
The cover letter looks same as LOE (letter of explanation), but it is little different.
LOE is for giving justification of some information and cover letter is like application, like why are you applying, why you want to go Canada, etc.
$23000 is good for 2 weeks. Don’t forget to make a proper itinerary and plant for your visit.
Rajinder Kaur
Hi Pawan,
I am bit confused between a cover letter and purpose for visit. Should cover letter be included in a purpose of visit column? I do not understand where to upload these two and itinerary and plan for visit. Because I am left with invitation, finance, purpose of visit and LOE. In which category I can include purpose of visit, cover letter etc.
Thank you
Pawan Bahuguna
I have not filled an online application, but If I were you, I would include, all those things in 1 PDF, and would upload in ‘Purpose of Visit’.
Rajinder Kaur
Hi Pawan
Can I upload the scanned copy of invitation letter or should I have to show the original? As I am applying online. My cousin sis has emailed me a copy and posted it too. But it will take 10-15 days for delivery in Sydney. My question is that will the scan copy work or not?
Pawan Bahuguna
Yes, you can upload scan copy and also upload some document to verify the signature on the invitation letter. Also, ask for SCAN copies of PR card.

Hello Pawan
I am applying for a Canadian tourist visa online. I will be traveling for 21 days with my common-law partner and our 7 months old son on the month of March and April. I have accommodations bookings confirmed in Alberta and Vancouver that are to be paid at the property. could this impact on my visa being approved?
Secondly, the house we live in is under my spouse names and we do not have any joint accounts nor anything but have been living together for four years now. I am the director of our company and she is not a shareholder in it.I am submitting my company finances as a proof and she will be attaching her title deed as a proof that we have no reason to remain in Canada for the period set.i have not booked any flights and car rentals yet.
Do you suggest I pay for them even though the Visa is yet to be approved? We have around CAD 10,500.00 in my account for a 21-day trip. I do have a friend in Calgary but had not asked for his invitation. Should I ask for it? Please advise on this.
Pawan Bahuguna
If they have confirmed the booking, then there should be no issue. Yes, please ask your friends also to provide invitation, it could strengthen your application.
Flight booking is not mandatory, but help in letting immigration officer to know, you have plans to come back to your homeland. Also make a complete plan what you will do in 21 days, like visiting friend, sightseeing, etc.
kabelo collen molokwe
Hi Pawan
I must say i appreciate your effort in reverting to every question. this is all so helpful.much appreciated. well, i have attached a travel itinerary that I did through inspirock. oooh that’s a cool website I bumped into doing my research on traveling to canada.it has full details that suggest places to visit and hotels and flights.
I forgot to mention I am a photographer and this will be my first trip outside of Africa and hope my visa is granted as Canada has always been my dream destination.
Thank you
Pawan Bahuguna
Thanks, Kabelo and good suggestion for planning travel.
Hope you get your TRV.
Jose
Hi Pawan!
I want to apply for a tourist visa to Canada. I want to go for about 18 days and I have an account at the bank with more than 4000 Canadian dollars and a credit card for about the same amount. That money helped me to make a trip for one month to Europe (Spain, France, Hungary, Germany, and Holland) in 2017.
I have a travel insurance that I got the last year and I could get a booking for a flight and hotel while I’m in Canada. I don’t have properties in Peru (where I live) and I didn’t have a job for a while but I’m going to start a new job as an administrative assistant in a travel agency in March (I’m planning to travel for 18 days in February).
Do you think a recommendation letter from my new boss would be enough for my application? or what do you think? what else could I show?
Many thanks in advance
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Jose,
You will have to write a good cover letter explaining your situation. Yes, you would need your offer letter from new employer, but I don’t think your new boss can recommend you as you have not started job there.
I would say you write everything in your cover letter and tell them why you want to go. If you don’t have property there, you should show strong family relation.
Senthil
Hi Pawan,
I (Senthil) am a Canadian PR and I am planning to submit Visitor Visa for my Mom. Without booking any flight I am in thought of providing travel itinerary for her. But I have no idea of preparing the itinerary for 5 months. And moreover, myself and my wife are working here. Please guide me on this.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Senthil,
If you are calling her on visitor visa better to book round trip tickets and health insurance.Though not mandatory, but it will surely strengthen your application.
In this post, you can get an idea what to write. In her starting days in Canada, you can make a plan for every weekend and put other days as the family time at home. Parents usually don’t have much trouble in getting the visa.
Ravinder kumar
Sir,
I have 3,50,000 in my saving account but I have not any travel history, i am working in private company my salary is 25000 monthly. I want 10 days visit to Canada in April 2018. Please suggest me if I have any chance of visa and please tell me in family information form how to write in my native language Punjabi.
Pawan Bahuguna
You should have some purpose to visit Canada, which you can write on your cover letter. If you don’t have anyone in Canada, 3.5L won’t be much. You cannot fill any form in Punjabi.

Hi Pawan,
My sister, her husband and her daughter want to apply for canada visitor visa, her husband is a draftsman in municipal corporation and has abour 2 lacs in his account and 4 lacs in my sisters savings account. They want to visit for 10-15 days.
I am just wondering if that much money enough to satisfy the visa officer? My sister and my niece have travelled to australia on two occassions and her husband had lived in Dubai for 10 years long time back.
I am Australian citizen and I have my ETA for canada and have enough money to sponsor them for a visit to canada in case i show them i going to be with them there? What u reckon what wud be the best option?
Thanks
Pawan Bahuguna
One should have enough money to sustain for the period he/she going and also have money for round trip tickets & medical insurance.
It can give some weightage to the application, if you write a cover letter stating you are going to sponsor them. Or can also deposit to money to their account and make a gift deed.
Rajendra
Hi Pawan,
I have a PR of Dubai which is valid till November 2018, which would be extended for another 3 years. I want to travel along with my wife and 4 years son(they both live in India) to Canada for tourism purpose and would be staying at my relative’s place who is not our sponsor. I have around 60K AED in my account ( â‚ą10 Lac) and owned house in India. I have checked with my employer and they dont have any objection for my 15 days travel which i can get it in the format attached. What else do you suggest me to attach with my application.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Rajendra,
Sorry for late reply.
Ask your relatives for an invitation letter, show as much money you can along with the proper relationship with your homeland so that they are convinced you & your family will return back after vacation.
Make proper plan on how you are going to spend your days there and advance tickets are also added advantage.
Ashwani Goel
Hi pawan
I got invitation letter to present a paper in International Conference to be held in April 2018 in Canad. I preparing document to apply tourist visa.
I will stay there for 4-5 days and i have 2.5 lakh balance in saving account. I got NOC & three salary slips from my employer. I am a tax payer and attach last 3 years tax returns. I will also attach marriage certificate and Property paper of 60 lakh but this property is of my father’s name.
I just traveled nepal otherwise i dnt have any travel history.. What are the chances for Tourist visa approval.
I am worried that i dont have travel history so i dnt it will effect on my visa or not.
Pawan Bahuguna
Sorry for late reply.
Your case looks genuine and for 4-5 days 2.5 lakh is sufficient excluding the trip tickets. Do not bother about travel history if you have good reason to visit Canada and have sufficient amount to help yourself.
Poornima
Hi Pawan,
First of all, thanks for doing this service to others.
My situation is I am engaged to a Canadian PR and I am planning to visit him before marriage for about a month. What are all my chances? My home ties are only my employment.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Poornima,
Cannot say about immigration officers these days. If you have a valid reason and proper documentation to visit Canada, then they will approve your request.
What about your family members in your home country?
Jasraj sing

Hi Pawan,
I am about to apply tourist visa to Canada for a couple of weeks. I have owned a company, I have my GST license and I don’t have any account on my company name. and I have 1100000 on saving the bank and property value 2000000 on my name and 600000 on my mothers. I have paid income tax 2015 to 2016 and 2016 to 2017. Around 5000. Insurance, tickets, hotels are ready. I’m married, but I am going myself only. Could please let me these are enough documents to get the visa or pls let know what i need, how to make a covering letter for Company MD.
Pawan Bahuguna
All looks good, but what is the purpose to visit?
Make a proper plan and Itinerary. Sorry, I don’t have any specific letter for MB, please use one of the existing one and modify it according to yourself.
Sandeep Kumawat
Hello Pawan sir,
My name is Sandeep kumawat, i m working as manager at Indian oil petrol pump i m planning to visit Canada on trv for 10 to 15 days. I have around 4lakh to 4.50 lakh in my saving ac ..I have to visa stamps one is Mauritius and 2nd is for Malaysia but I didn’t fly Malaysia due to some reason. I have property on my parents name around 30 lakes do I will get visa ?? or my balance is sufficient for 10 to 15 days
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Sandeep.
Do you have any relatives or friends in Canada?
Becuase the money you have is not be sufficient in my point of view. Out of that money, you will have to book round trip tickets, insurance, hotel and food. Parent property won’t help you. You can show it for showing strong ties with home land.
Sandeep
No, I don’t have any friend or relative in Canada and i have 4 lakh for spend in Canada and for hotel and air tickets, i have arrangements for that doesn’t include in this amount and I’m single
Pawan Bahuguna
Then it should be good. But don’t forget to show that money in total available money as they will think you have only 4 lakh. Also, as you are single, do show strong ties with the home country, otherwise they may believe you won’t return back.
sandeep kumawat
iwill do hotal booking and all my round trip advance after that ill show 4.30 lakhsr rest
Pawan Bahuguna
Then go for it. Make sure to include all the relevant documents.

Dear Mr. Pawan,
I was working in Saudi Arabia since 2011 but 4 months ago I came back to India. Now I would like to apply for Canada Tourist visa but I can’t show my employment details as I am not working currently and I don’t have any relatives or friends who can provide me invitation letter. Bank statement I can show balance up to 7 lakhs INR. So please let me know is there any option for me to apply for Canadian tourist visa. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,
Sameer
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Sameer,
You didn’t tell why you want to go and for how many days. Also, tell if you are single or married.
Manny
Hi Pawan,
I’m planning to go to Canada for my F1 visa extension stamping. I’m currently living in the US and will be applying online. Can you please advise how much funds I should show in my account? And how should I phrase my cover letter so they know its not just for a visit?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Manny,
It is good to a large sum of money. Just show them your bank balance and Tax forms. Actually, money depends on for how many days you are going. Check the standard cost of living of that city and calculate the amount. Overall take around $1000/week for one person excluding fare of flights.
Note: These are my opinions.
Reet
I need Statement of purpose format for the Canada visitor visa.can you provide me pls
Pawan Bahuguna
Please check “Purpose of Visit” which is available for download. Right now, we don’t have any other formats.
AMANDEEP SINGH
Dear Pawan myself AMANDEEP SINGH from Punjab. I am serving in Indian paramilitary forces since from 2011. Sir, I have a fresh passport and no travel history before. I haven’t any letter of invitation or sponsorship.

Pawan Bahuguna
Hello Amandeep,
Sorry but we cannot write your cover letter, there are format on this page, please download and change accordingly.
Also, I doubt 4 lakh will be enough for your stay in Canada for 60 days, so fill your application accordingly.
Anil
Hi Pawan! My online Canadian tourist visa application was refused as I did not have any other visas on my passport and no travel history. I had submitted my income statements and fixed deposits of about 10 lacs.
Now, I have 10 year US visa stamped on my passport. I wish to visit US and Canada during Christmas holidays. What chance do I stand for Canadian visa now if I reapply? Should I go through VFS or online again? If online, then where do I upload/attach my covering letter? Please advice
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Anil,
Candidly, I don’t have the idea about the online application, but you can upload your cover letter on section wherever it is asking for documents like invitation letter, etc.
Generally, if you have visa or not it does not matter a lot. They should be convinced that you are going for tourism only and you will surely return back.
Sal
How can I formats a letter if I am assisting my sister in Canada for medical treatment (pregnancy) As the the doctor has precisely asked her to get help from home
Pawan Bahuguna
Did not get your question Sal.
For what purpose you are writing the letter?
Nenu
Dear Pawan,
I am going for masters to canada and my visa is approved. Now, I have to make tourist visa for my boyfriend who is planning to come after 6 months of my settlement. He would like to stay in Canada for 6 months and return back to India. Can you please send me process in this case as he does not have invitation from any one. He has strong financial background and is currently doing own business in India. The main things to understand from you is about “purpose of Travel” what can be written in this case?
Pawan Bahuguna
In travel purpose, you can write about tourism and meeting friend i.e. you. But, I don’t think they will be approving if you will write your boy friend is visiting for 6 months. Because ideally, no one can leave his business for 6 months.
Vicky Farwaha
Hello Pawan sir,
I’m working as a manager at an educational institute since 2014.
I’m planning to apply for a visitor visa to canada in the month of october this year.
I don’t have any sponsoring relatives or friends in canada.
I will be going there to visit famous tourist attractions.
and if granted visa, I will be staying with my relatives (they are not my sponsors).
I’m having around 3.5 Lakh INR in my saving account.
My query is that can I show my wife’s saving’s account as my funds???
She has around 1.5 Lakh in her account.
moreover she has a provident fund of around 14 lakh INR.
she has some mutual funds and LIC policies also.
I want to stay in canada for a duration of One month (The month of december, because of christmas festival.)
And if you can suggest me some more valuable documentation, it would be warmly appreciated sir.
Pawan Bahuguna
You cannot show your wife account as she is not going with you. Also, 3.5 Lakh is not enough for 1 month. More than 1 lakh will go in ticket booking itself.
And do your employer giving you 1 month leave?
Alisha
Hi Pawan,
I want to apply visitor visa for my mother to accompany along with me to Canada as I’m PR and due family problems domestic violence case was filed against my husband and now my mother don’t want me to go to Canada alone as I don’t have any siblings in Canada, so want to come along with me for 2 weeks and the return back. My father and grandfather are in India. Can u suggest me what all documents can I show as I m in India since 6 months and not working? Thank u in advance.
Pawan Bahuguna
You write all your situation in Cover letter and show as much document as possible and your mother strong ties with the home country. Also, try to show sufficient amount of money.
If possible book round trip tickets in advance (Make sure they are refundable, in case anything goes wrong) and insurance for that period. The document list is given on my post regarding my experience for Canada visa, please check that.
alisha
Hi pawan,
How much balance should I show for my mother as she is housewife.
Pawan Bahuguna
As much as possible. Because they check if the visitor has money to return and pay his/her expenses there even if you say you will take care.
Sahil
Thanks to gave us reply. .sir
I have already taken traveling insurance me and my wife 250000$ . TATA AIG
Should i take Medical insurance also or traveling insurance enough to get the visa..
We have to pay extra get the multiple visa .
I saw fee its 100$ for vistor visa or Temporary residence permit 200$. Bit confused abt that.
Sir I want mutipal visa. .could you explain tht
Pawan Bahuguna
If you are going for tourism, apply for tourist Visa. Normally they give visa for multiple entry for specific period.
Temporary residence permit is for those people who are inadmissible to enter Canada.
Read more about Temporary residence permit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/inadmissibility/permits.asp

Hello Pawan,
My parents are planning a vacation to CANADA. I just wanted to know few things.
1. If they want to travel by road to Canada, do they still need an itinerary to be provided.
2. also before applying for Visa is hotel booking mandatory.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Ishneet,
1. From Road?? From where they are coming?
2. No it’s not mandatory, but makes your application strong.
Muhammad
Hi Pawan,
I am planning to apply visit visa with my family. we are resident in Dubai since 8 years. Would you gives tips / suggestions.

Hi Muhammad,
All my tips and experience already given above in this post. Let me know specifically what you are looking for or if you have any issue in filling application. There are also many concerns which are resolved in comments, so do check the comments.

Hi Pawan,
I’m about to apply for a visitor visa in order to attend a Model United Conference in Montreal. I’d like to have more information in order to get my visa and also to know more about the travel insurance (a friend told me it must be from a Canadian insurance company only), I already have the Invitation letter form the conference organizer, leave letter from my college, financial proof (2 banks statements from two banks with more than $2000 CAD available for 10 days plus credit card copy), hotel and round trip flight tick booking from a travel agent and my Indian RP (I’m an international student).
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Gino,
I did my travel insurance from Indian company. There is no such rule that you have to do insurance only from Canadian insurance agency.
Gino
Thank you Pawan for the answer, I’m about to buy a travel insurance from an Indian company only but there are two insured sum $100,000 and $50,000 what should I buy?and also if you’ve any other advice about anything else that I’m must check out or do maybe any other documents That I must add before submitting my application and if you can give me your email so that I can send u my cover letter to check if it’s good enough
Pawan Bahuguna
Insurance totally depend upon you. Choose whatever you this is best for you.
Check your application twice, ask your family or friends to go through it once for any error you which you are not able to see. It happened with me, with my application.
Sorry, but won’t be able to check the cover letter personally due to time constraints.
Charan
Pawan apart from filling paper application, I think we have to fill online form & take bar code can you guide me on that.
Pawan Bahuguna
The offline PDF itself generates bar code and you have to take 2 copies of barcode page. I hope process is still same.
