Harpreet Singh
Hi
Could you please suggest me to get materials for RHCVA.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Harpreet,
Sorry, but I don’t have the idea about good material about RHCVA. I would suggest to go with Red Hat official material.
Brad
HI, could you suggest some preparation for rhcsa? I am new to Redhat and would like to get certify. I am windows user for more than 13 years, its hard to start, but I believe its possible. Just need some guide from guru.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Brad,
If you are windows administrator, would ask you to start with learning basic unix stuff first. Install Linux in your system and start practicing. Red Hat official books and administrator’s guides are good to start. Let me know if you need any specific help.
Brad
Hi Pawan,
I have setup my Centos 7 and Redhat 7 in VM environment. I am preparing the test now.
Pawan Bahuguna
Great Brad,
Do let me know if you need any help.
Philippe
Hey Pawan,
Thanks, your book is amazing. I passed the RHCSA exam EX200. I am now sure I will also pass the RHCE exam using just your book.
Pawan Bahuguna
Nice to read such comments Philippe.
Hope you have already reviewed our book on Amazon and good luck for your RHCE exam.
Philippe
Hey Pawan,
I have a new question. Please could you tell me why yum install system-config-kickstart comes back with the error Nothing To Do ?
I’m using Centos7.
I also tried running the command system-config-kickstart directly supposing it was already installed but it gave me nothing.
Thanks !
Pawan Bahuguna
As per your comment looks, it is already installed. Even if it is not installed it should give error that there is no such command.
Philippe
Good morning Pawan,
My name is Philippe and I have a problem I thought you could help me with. When I try to create a new virtual machine in Virtual Machine Manager I get the following error:
“Warning: KVM is not available. This may mean the KVM package is not installed, or the KVM kernel modules are not loaded. Your virtual machines may perform poorly.”
when I run: # lsmod | grep kvm
all I get is: kvm 525259 0
I have a AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics processor.
I downloaded all the necessary virtualization packages, I started libvirtd and enabled it as well.
I do not know what I’m not doing or what I’m doing wrong, my cpu supports virtualization and I made sure it is enabled in the BIOS but I do not know what kind of cpu RHEL7 requires for kvm or what I need to do to get this cpu to work with KVM.
I also ran the egrep ‘(vmx|svm)’ /proc/cpuinfo and received no output.
Please help me, I’m really trying to learn RedHat and pass my certifications but don’t want to keep getting frustrated.
Thank you, I appreciate your help!
Philippe
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Philippe,.
Have you installed the required KVM packages?
Also, without KVM you can complete your RHCSA and RHCE syllabus as you don’t have to install OS in exam. Let me know if you need any other help or have any questions.
Philippe
Well that’s good news and thanks for your prompt response. Just to be sure, would you please give me the list of all the KVM packages needed ?
The reason why I’m still trying to get KVM is because I’m studying Michael Jang’s book and the systems he’s asking to set up are through KVM.
So without them, I won’t even be able to go through the book.
Pawan Bahuguna
Please use below link for RHEL 7. It has good info.
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Virtualization_Deployment_and_Administration_Guide/chap-Installing_the_virtualization_packages.html
Philippe
It says they are already installed, nothing to do. But there I read that I need to be first subscribed to Red Hat but I can’t because I’m using Centos7.
Thanks tho!
Pawan Bahuguna
Grep vmx and svm in /proc/cpuinfo. It should show these value for virtualization to work.
Philippe
Thanks Pawan,
I just reinstalled Cent0S7 actually now in my physical machine, and no longer via VirtualBox. It’s working perfectly fine now.
Thank you !
Pawan Bahuguna
That sound great. Keep practicing now. Good luck for your exams.
Nauman Sharif

Hello Pawan,
I am having more than 10+ years experiance in windows and now i want to learn Linux administration.
So how to proceed for that as a new learner?
i prefer to start as my own, so which books and video i need to refer for that ?
Pawan Bahuguna
Just start with basics and install virtual machine on your PC/laptop and start practicing. There are lots of free resource available online if you just want to learn.
Sonia
Hi,
Can anyone help me with the books for RHCE Books 2, 3 or 4? A download link would be appreciated. Also, does anyone know where i can practice using virtual server? any place when i can practice? I am sorry i am new to this and trying to learn linux
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Sonia,
We do not provide any download link. You will have to buy them. For your practice you can install any virtual machine software in your desktop/Laptop and install Linux or CentOS in it.

I am interested in RED HAT Certifications.
What do you think about the online training’s provided by them as its not possible for me to visit any center.
And tell me one book that i should take to start preparing at least learning point of view.
Also do you have any pdf or any material that you can share so that will be helpful for me.
Thanks in advance.
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Rahul,
I have not gone through their online training so can’t comment. But I am sure Red Hat must be having very good training but it may be costly.
Currently I am having Asghar Ghori book and it covers all the topics. I have also checked some part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 (EX200 and EX300) book by Sander van Vugt in Safari store which is still not released, but it is also very good.
shankar
Please send Asghar Ghori Rhcsa & Rhce Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 book links.
Pawan Bahuguna
No I don’t have that nor I provide any links for downloads.
Abhishek Kumar
Hi Pawan,
All the info is really very helpful. Actually I am working professional and so not getting much time for study much. If I will ask you to suggest me to study only one book among them, then which one you will suggest. which book will excellent to pass RHCSA/RHCE also with easy understanding.
Thanks,
Abhishek
Pawan Bahuguna
For RHCSA and RHCE exam, I will ask you to wait for book no. 2. (Red Hat RHCE/RHCSA 7 Cert Guide) or you can see video tutorial by same author. It is available in Safari Books online. Link: https://www.safaribooksonline.com/library/view/red-hat-enterprise/9780134033969/
Book number 3 is also good.

And I had lot of resources like CBT NUGGETS and YouTube video tutorials , lot of ebooks etc.
Pawan Bahuguna

Hi Pawan,
I contacted Red Hat and they are no longer testing for enterprise 6. They informed me that they are only testing for enterprise 7 kiosk or instructor based testing. Can you check your sources to see if this is correct? I took admin1 and admin2 for rhsca but didnt take my exam for enterprise 6. A few years latter and Im a the point where I need to take the exam after person reasons have delayed my testing. Also is there any 1 or 2 books that you can recommend that are currently avaiable now? Im thinking of purchasing 4. RHCSA & RHCE Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7: Training and Exam Preparation Guide (EX200 and EX300), Third Edition. And or . Practical Guide to Fedora and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (7th Edition): Any book better then the other for passing the rhcsa ex200 exam for enterprise 7?
Pawan Bahuguna
Hi Greg,
Earlier I read in Redhat website, that they can schedule RHEL6 exam on demand till December 2015 but now I am not able to find that. May be they have discontinued it.
For RHEL 6, there are some good books and I have taken reference from those to clear the exam, please check here: http://www.pawanbahuguna.com/passed-rhcsa-rhce-good-marks/
For RHEL7, there are currently 2 books only available for purchase as mentioned in above post, though you can take reference from Redhat workbooks. They are also very good.
Or please wait for few months till the other 2 books are launched.
Mike
How can you say the second book, the Cert Guide is a good book and you have read it when it’s not even scheduled for release until 7/15?
Pawan Bahuguna
I have seen video course of Sander van Vugt for RHEL7 and it is really awesome and I am sure book will also be based on same.
manoj hanse
Hi there,
This is for people wanting to give exam on rhel6. The time is limited likely till end of March. This month. For latest information check redhat website.
Those who want to give exam on RHEL 7 and are migrating from 6 should know that there is a vast difference between v6 and v7.
So you have to prepare yourself on 7 before exam.
About books: for v7 no books available other than those from RedHat. And you will get them only if you join classes.
But there is an option. Redhat site has a system administration guide that is not less than any book. So go out and check that. I am providing the link below.
But for exam forms you need those books from Red Hat.
https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/System_Administrators_Guide/index.html
Good luck.
Pawan Bahuguna
For RHEL 7, Admin guide is good to understand Red hat 7 and as I said in my article above that original books from Red hat covers complete RHCSA and RHCE syllabus are ultimate.
Soon RHCE/RHCSA 7 Cert Guide by Sander will hit the market than I think student can take reference from that book also.
M Nagappa
These books are very good for certification.
Pawan Bahuguna
Yes these books are very good for RHEL 7.
Pavan
Hi Pawan, can you please give me your email address? My email is [email protected]

Thanks a lot..I am preparing for RHCSA on RHEL 6 for past two months .Do you have any idea as to what is the deadline upto which we can take exams on RHEL 6 as RHEL 7 has released . Shall I Jump to RHEL 7?? What do you suggest ?
Thanks
Pawan Bahuguna
I will suggest you to take Exam on RHEK 7 though red hat is still taking exam on RHEL 6 and there is no such date of its retirement.
Harshal
Hi I want to know whether should I give exam for rhel6 or rhel7. I want to do certification exam. Some people suggest me go for 6 some saying 7
Pawan Bahuguna
I will suggest to exam on RHEL 7 as it is always good to take exam of latest version and soon their may be demand of people who are good in RHEL 7 in industries.
Parul Batra
Hi,
Please let me know if EX200 exam is available at Pearson exam center? How to book the slot? I am self learning through books and videos.
Pawan Bahuguna
I doubt Pearson has that exam. You can check with your local Red hat approved center for booking Red hat exam. Check below link.

Thanks Pawan. I have passed in RHCSA (RHEL 7) but problem is that I don’t know where I lost the points. Would I have been penalized for creating a back up of configuration files or a test directory which i created for testing out stuff in the exam ?
Thanks
Pawan Bahuguna
Congrats buddy! That’s is very interesting question. Actually we do not have any option to know that. I don’t think creating backup files or directories will be a problem in Redhat exams.
LinuxUser
Thanks Pawan. And Sander’s book is coming out on Aug 7th this year. He has updated that in his Twitter account.
https://twitter.com/sandervanvugt/status/614429016167026688
Pawan Bahuguna
Thanks for update buddy. I am waiting for that book.
Philippe
Hey there,
congratulations ! I’m next in line.
I just had a quick question: If you could give me an estimate in percentage, how many percent of the stuffs that are in Pawan’s book in the exam ?
Not doubting his book, I just would like to know if I need more study materials or I could just focus on his.
Thank you!
Pawan Bahuguna
All parts are covered in the book. It has sample papers and would help you if you have already completed your study for the EXAM.
Philippe
Thank you Pawan, you’re the man!
🙂
